After starting his career with 27 straight wins, Andre Berto has hit his ceiling with a 4-4 record in his last eight fights. But that ceiling is still right up there with some of the best in the sport today, and his Saturday matchup against Shawn Porter promises to be a good one.

Porter, himself struggling to compete at the highest level but good enough to beat most everyone else, is trying to recover from his second career loss, a unanimous decision at the hands of Keith Thurman in June. Saturday’s card will be broadcast on Showtime in the United States, beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET.

A live stream of the fights will be available online at Showtime NOW.

Berto’s first career loss was to Victor Ortiz, a past-his-prime Victor Ortiz who really had no business beating Berto. It took him a few years, but Berto avenged that loss with a TKO over Ortiz in April 2016. Prior to that, he fought Floyd Mayweather in a fight that Berto had no business in.

Predictably, that ended in a unanimous decision for Mayweather. Berto, 33, is past his prime but seems, due to his recent history, that he’s aged a whole lot over the past few years.

Porter’s 2014 loss to Kell Brook was the first of his career, and despite it being a majority decision, it wasn’t really a close fight. Wins over Erick Bone and Adrien Broner look good on his record, but a unanimous decision loss to Thurman sent him back to the drawing board.

Overall, Berto has competed at a higher level and beaten better competition than Porter. He has the tools to win this fight, but he’s been inconsistent in fights he should win in the past, and all Porter needs is a small window to take control of a fight.

The main Showtime broadcast will also feature a fight for the WBC 154-pound Super Welterweight title between Charles Hatley and Jermell Charlo.
