The San Francisco Giants’s 2017 season was already off to a rough start, and it got that much worse on Friday when it was announced that the team has placed starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner on the disabled list following a dirt bike accident.

The incident occurred on Thursday during the team’s off day in Denver.  The 27-year-old ace is said to have suffered bruised ribs and a Grade 1 or 2 sprain of the AC joint in his left shoulder.  He’s been released from the hospital and is resting in the team’s hotel.  He’ll be reevaluated next week, but early reports suggest he’ll miss 6-8 weeks.

In four starts this season Bumgarner had an 0-3 record, a 3.00 ERA, and 28 strikeouts.  This marks the first time in his career that he’s been placed on the DL.
