The Michigan Wolverines will meet the Wisconsin Badgers in the 2017 Big Ten Tournament final. It’s the Badgers’ third finals appearance in the past five years, while Michigan searches for its first Big Ten title after losing the final to rival Michigan State in 2014.
The No. 8-seeded Wolverines are coming off two impressive victories against Minnesota in the semifinals and an overtime battle against top-seeded Purdue in the quarterfinals. Their offense has been a juggernaut so far, and the Maize and Blue have scored more points than anyone else. A tournament that began in nightmare fashion for John Beilein’s squad may end up with the Wolverines leaving as champions.
Wisconsin entered the tournament as the No. 2-seeded team. Two impressive performances, including a 28-point thrashing of Northwestern in the semifinals Saturday, booked its ticket into the finals as the Badgers hope to win their second Big Ten title in three years. The Badgers are a defensive powerhouse, holding opponents to a total of just over 100 points this weekend.
These two teams first met this season in January, when Wisconsin defeated Michigan 68-64 in Madison. They met again in February, and the Wolverines came away with a 64-58 victory in Ann Arbor. They both proved they could win at home, but who can come away with victory on a neutral court?
