There are seven games that tip off on Wednesday evening.

The first round of the NIT continues on Wednesday evening, following the first batch of games on Tuesday night.

Unlike the NCAA tournament, the NIT’s format is a bit different, in that the first-round games are played at the home arena of the team with the higher seed.

First, we have the No. 1 Iowa Hawkeyes against the No. 8 South Dakota State Jackrabbits. Iowa finished its season fifth in the Big Ten, but missed the Big Dance, which had seven Big Ten teams in total. South Dakota State lost to South Dakota in the Summit League conference tournament championship.

The other 1-vs.-8 game is between No. 1 Illinois State and No. 8 UC Irvine. The Anteaters also lost in their conference tournament final, a 50-47 loss to UC Davis. Illinois State got the No. 1 seed with a 27-6 record, but a loss to Wichita State in the conference tournament championship may have cost it a shot at the NCAA tournament, which the Shockers got a bid to as a No. 10 seed.

After Wednesday, we’ll know what the full second round of the NIT will look like. It should be a fun night of hoops, looking at the additional matchups below.
