The Villanova Wildcats may be the defending national champions, but they’d like to add a Big East Championship to their trophy case after falling short in the conference tournament a year ago. Nova will get its chance to do so against the Creighton Bluejays on Saturday in the Big East Tournament Championship Game.
Villanova, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, smoked No. 8 St. John’s on Thursday and snuck past tough No. 5 Seton Hall in the semifinals on Friday. Seton Hall beat Nova in the title game a year ago. Creighton, the No. 6 seed in the tournament, beat No. 3 Providence and No. 7 Xavier to reach the title game.
The Wildcats won both prior matchups between the teams, winning 80-70 in Omaha on New Year’s Eve and beating the Jays 79-63 at home in February. This third battle will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
SBNation.com’s Chris Dobbertean currently has Villanova entering the 2017 NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 overall seed and Creighton as a No. 7 seed. We’ll see if the Big East final result shakes up the bracket.
