During a closed-door meeting among NFL team owners and executives, Houston Texans owner Bob McNair reportedly made an off-hand comment towards the many players protesting during the playing of the National Anthem.

McNair, who a multimillion-dollar Trump campaign contributor, stated, “We can’t have the inmates running the prison.”

NFL executive and former player Troy Vincent might have been the only person in that room that took offense to the comment, and he reportedly engaged in a heated debate with the Texans owner and with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones as a result.

McNair later apologized to Vincent, per ESPN, “saying that he felt horrible and that his words weren’t meant to be taken literally, which Vincent appreciated.”
