Seven-year-old Alex Ibarra caught the attention of soccer fans around the world when he posted a video saying he was auctioning off his signed Cristian Pulisic jersey to raise money for Puerto Rico.

The auction was part of a fundraising effort by the Oakland chapter of the American Outlaws supporters group, which helped them raise a total of $3,200. The selfless act by this boy to give away one of his most prized possessions didn’t go unnoticed by Pulisic himself, who had a special message for Alex.

Pulisic is replacing Alex’s signed Borussia Dortmund jersey with a signed USA jersey, and making a donation to Puerto Rico as well. The best part might be this video from Oakland, where Alex was surprised by watching the video in person.

Alex is remarkable and this sequence makes us a little more hopeful about the future.
