An all-top-six FA Cup semifinal has been confirmed, with all of Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Arsenal winning their quarterfinal ties. But which of their fellow big sides will join them? We might find out Monday, when Manchester United takes on Chelsea.
Everything has gone smoothly for Chelsea in their first season under Antonio Conte. They’re top of the Premier League and have coasted through their first three FA Cup ties, avoiding Premier League opposition along the way. It’s been a bit more of a roller-coaster for José Mourinho at Manchester United, but his Red Devils captured the EFL Cup and are still in the Europa League.
The one Premier League meeting between these two teams went terribly for United. Chelsea pasted them 4-0 at Stamford Bridge, and Mourinho was less than thrilled with Conte’s wild celebrations after every goal.
For those unfamiliar with FA Cup rules, this is the last round in which a replay can happen. If this game ends in a draw, Chelsea and United will have to play again at Old Trafford.
Chelsea has a clean bill of health for this game, but the same can’t be said for Manchester United, who has no fit and available strikers. Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial are injured, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is suspended, and Marcus Rashford is ill.
